New Balance x Concepts
New Balance have paired up with one of Massachusetts’ finest foot-, street- and skate-wear brand, Concepts, to produce a new take on the 998 design. The Concepts M998TN2 – nicknamed The C-Note – draws inspiration for its colourway from the upcoming American hundred dollar bill. A pretty “ratchet” idea if ever we’ve heard one (to coin the phrase of the moment).
Premium off-white and olive suede upper panels, mesh toe box for ventilation, overlays of silver reflective textile and a couple of gold accents.
Special retailers had this shoe on September 14, but it became widely available on September 28. They’ve sold out pretty fast, but there are still some available if you’re willing to search around:
For those of you who don’t fancy a scrum, the two brands have done a second collaboration, which will become available on October 5 2013 online. They’re following up The C-Note with a “mint” version of the 998, this time inspired by the U.S. Mint…in keeping with their money theme.
Predominantly a slightly creamy green hue, with accents of orange and strong beige, the “mint” is a bit of a parakeet. In our opinion, it’s not quite as slick as The C-Note, but it’s a matter of preference.
