Netpix: Black Lightning (Series)

We sift through the Netflix ocean, so you don’t have to…

Review Rating: 5/10

Starring: Cress Williams, James Remar, Christine Adams & Marvin Jones III

Genre: Comic book series

When to watch: When you are bored and need something to fill the time.

Plot synopsis: Black Lightning a local superhero and school principal, comes out of retirement when it becomes clear that his daughter could potentially be affeced by the increasingly powerful grip that the local gangs are having on the kids of the area.  His efforts are met by resistance from the over the top vilians and he struggles to strike a balance between his day to day life and his night time hero antics.

Stylistically it is very similar to the Luke Cage series, but falls well short of the quality. The show almost serves as a Luke Cage-lite to fill the gap until my favourite Netflix Marvil Character returns for his next season. All in all Black Lightning is not the kind of show that you are going to become obsessed with but for a comicbook fan, it certainly does help pass the time on a hungover Sunday morning, with it’s over the top evil vilains fight scenes.
