Mike’s Monday #Playlist – 30.12.2013
XWHY’s Mike Thomas hits us with a his final playlist of 2013…
After the success of our XMAS playlist series, Mike had a tough job formulating a suitably gripping follow up. Always a man to rise to a challenge, though, he’s put together some real gems for us.
George FitzGerald’s first release- I Can Tell (By the Way You Move) – was an Ibiza hit that landed him in the same category as Tensnake and Jon Hopkins. ‘Nighttide Lover’, which appeared earlier this summer, is far less club-anthem, and peels back to a more minimal house, which is why we like it…
American Kelela is one of those forgivably haughty stars, imbued with a wisdom that comes from working your way up and being everso slightly older than your average breaking pop-starlet. Her debut album – Cut 4 Me – is weird, a bit dark and has done extremely well.
Mike brings the playlist, and indeed the year 2013, to a euphoric close with Sam Smith’s beatific ‘Nirvana’. Try not to like it, just you try.
