Mike’s Monday #Playlist – 07.07.14
We start the playlist off this week with a touch of Connan Mockasin, the falsetto crooner who more often than not, looks like he’s stepped right out of 1960s stockholm. His voice oozes cool but more importantly sex. A Uni friend of mine has always sworn by Kenny G for his romantic liaisons, but it think he’d be pleasantly surprised by the effect that “Do I make you feel shy?” might have on his other half.
There has seemingly been a massive increase in artists that have stage names based on puns of other famous faces such as Chet Faker, Com Truise and Joy Orbison. Well former Google Account Exec Steven Markowitz is another to add to the list. Known to his fans as Hoodie Allen, the singer/rapper has grown a huge fan base without the help of social media, youtube and a good sense of humour. His light-hearted ode to a love interest “Show me what you’re made of” showcases his talents perfectly.
Grime MC, Skepta is back with a new track entitled “That’s Not Me” (featuring his younger brother JME) from his soon to be released album Konnichiwa. Rather than being about a case of misstaken identity, it’s about things in life he would rather distance himself from, such as dressing badly and romancing random girls. I can’t say we’ve ever done either…
