Mike’s Monday #Playlist – 02.06.14

XWHY’s Michael Thomas pushes you off the edge of the cliff and gives you the wings to fly with his Monday playlists

Kate Tempest is what she is, and what she is is quite interesting. White, British, rapper with background in poetry and literature. She’s feisty and self-aware. Nice.

Between Twin Shadow and Ben Khan, we’ve got our synth bases covered. ‘Savage’ has a marching beat that’s bound to get you out from under the covers and away down the road, while ‘Say Anything’ ups the tempo even further, putting a spring in your step.

The Night VI were once described by NME as “a slick mix of melody and melancholy”, and conscious of “the power of romantic intrigue.” Sienna is a drawling ode to unrequited love and distant longing – a bit cloying, but it will ring true for countless folk, we’re sure.

The third in a list of sibiliant mono-syllables, ‘Survuval’ is a great way to close the list this week. A quiet, lolloping, delightful tune by American hip-hopper Jeremiah Jae. A bit like rap meets Bonobo. A good combo, if you ask us.
