Mike’s Monday Music Playlist 23/3/15
XWHY’S MIKE CURATES THE PICK OF THE MUSICAL CROP TO SOUNDTRACK YOUR MONDAY MORNING.
You can almost bet your house on Nick Brewer receiving many a lazy Ed Sheeran comparisons as his rise to prominence continues. Like Ed, Nick Raps and sings and is a white man in what is considered a non-white genre. Fingers crossed though, we are moving into more enlightened times and for most people that listen to “Take Me Home” will just take it at face value as the cool electro R’n’B joint that it is.
“No Stoppin This” is the lead track on The Mouse Outfit Album “Step Steadier”. If you’re not familiar with their work as yet, then this track is a awesome introduction showing off everything that makes them great. Lyricism, flow and more intellect on show than we are currently seeing from our cross atlantic cousins. Helping to provide a strong identity for both them and the current UK Hip Hop scene.
It would seem the second era of grime is finally upon us. One of the young pretenders to the Grime thrown that is receiving a lot of love (including being involved in that Kanye Brit awards performance) was Stormzy. His single “Know Me From” is produced by ZDot and the accompanying video is a humorous back to basics number in keeping with the Grime spirit.
