Mike’s Monday Morning #Playlist – 31.03.14

XWHY’s Mike Thomas lays down a selection of the best new and recent music to get your Monday started right….

Drummer Joe Manning, guitarist Evans Kati and bassist Tom McClung, formerly of WU LYF, have teamed up on a new project – Los Porcos. This track C.F.W (‘Classically Feminine Woman’ – to give it its full title) is funkadelic and feel-good. Daft-punk inspired disco revivalism in full swing – and that sweet little refrain ‘together we will find ourselves in love’ will echo around your head for days…

Continuing with a theme, from falling in love, to revelling in the intensity of a new relationship, LA indie act Ghost Loft’s reverby falsetto “you make me so high; you bring me alive” join the tumble of lines that will stick with you for the rest of the day.

We rediscovered Chet Faker this year at Austin’s SXSW festival, so it wasn’t long before Mike shoved him on a playlist somewhere. A second collaboration with Flume, after the well-received ‘Left Alone’. This one is a pithy, stomping, low key track.

Bringing the disco back around again, we’ve got French producer Neptune Safari with ‘Morning Sun’ – a catchy little number, perfect for a lazy, boozy afternoon. Plus, there’s a tiger in a space suit on the EP…and who doesn’t enjoy a tiger in space?!
