Mike’s Monday Morning #Playlist – 24.02.14

XWHY’s Michael Thomas brings the tunes to your Monday, with his Soundcloud and Spotify playlists…

Well, what an absolutely cracking way to start the week. The frost seems to be thawing; the crisp sun is banishing the floods and we’ve got some banging tunes to put a spring in your step.

Todd Osborn is a bit of a legend among the House crowd. He’s been around and, apparently, done everything – including, if you believe Ghostly International, fixed planes and made a video game kiosk out of hospital equipment… Here he is with the shoulder twitching ‘5thep’.

Indie super-group Broken Bells has some serious credentials, in the form of Brian Burton (a.k.a. Danger Mouse) and James Mercer, lead vocalist and guitarist for Zach Braff movie darlings The Shins. ‘After the Disco’ is a comedown track of sorts, for when your knees have knocked one too many times pulling your Saturday Night Fever moves. Having called them a ‘super-group’, one of the things you’ll notice about this low-key track is it’s lack of pretension or dramatic over production. It’s totally un-super in quite a delightful way.

Swedish Erik Hassle has had a relatively under-the-major-radar career so far in the UK. he’s had number 1s and 2s in his native Sweden and Denmark, but he has pretty much failed to chart in any significant way over here. ‘Talk About it’ is a taste of what’s to come from his forthcoming Somebody’s Party EP, which will be released on March 4.
