Mike’s Monday Morning #Playlist – 21.10.13

Mike leads in with a very interesting track this week. It was first premiered on Vice magazine’s Noisey music channel, framed in a particularly cryptic note about its prodigiousness. Extrapolating slightly, we think they’re probably referring to the fact that Dream Koala (a.k.a. Yndi Ferreira) may only be a teenager, but his music has a dynamic, multi-layered sophistication about it that seems well beyond his years.

Ferreira says of his music that he wanted to have his own “genre, by mixing all [his] influences together. He does this by overlaying strings, with drum beats, claps, reversed vocals of his own, supplemented by dreamy vocals by guest lyricist Soko.

Moving on to another cross-genre offering by South London trio Dems. Electronic melodies, break beats and haunting vocals by guest singer Claudie. Also, a pretty mesmerising video, which you can check out HERE.

Some familiar, but favourite tracks by Bombay Bicycle Club, The Family Rain and a particularly “feel good” track by Shakka. And ending on a brilliantly upbeat, 80s inspired Jupiter, Little Boots remix.
