Mike’s Monday Morning #Playlist – 07.04.14

XWHY’s Mike Thomas lays down a selection of the best new and recent music to get your Monday started right….

An electro-heavy playlist – April looks to be a synthy month.

Leading the charge is the mysterious (-ish, we saw him play at SXSW and he turned out to be a slightly odd looking, flame-haired hipster type, bopping around behind a keyboard) SOPHIE – with the chilled out ‘Deep Down Inside’. Not such a huge fan of the squawking happy-hardcore vocals on his more famous track ‘Bipp’? This one’s a mellow alternative.

Speaking of SXSW (as if we haven’t done that enough already), this is where we first came across Aussie band The Griswolds. Joining a merry band of indie-pop revivalists, these guys were fun, quirky and had some pretty interesting dance moves among their guitarists.

Okay, quit with the M.I.A. comparisons. There is allowed to be more than one Asian woman in the pop industry. Samsaya, for a start, is Norwegian. And she’s f*cking cool. ‘Fast Food’ is staccato, fun and feisty.
