Mike Monday Morning #Playlist – 11.11.13

Morning folks!

Mike’s back to kickstart your work week with a carefully sourced selection of new and relatively under-discovered tracks.

Despite the name, LOL Boys aren’t a parody act of the likes of Lonely Island. The Canada-LA duo have produced a series of downbeat, synth-heavy, sample-free tracks since they teamed up. But despite relatively little output so far, the pair have decided to call it quits already to concentrate on solo projects. Their last offering was an EP containing this remix of, arguably, their most popular track – ‘Changes’.

We know a few people that would like to claim that garage never really went away, but whether that’s true or not, it’s certainly having a bit of a resurgence, coinciding with the recession of drum and bass and dubstep. Check out Mancunian producer XXXY‘s multi-layered electro-garage cross on for size. And if that doesn’t make the point, consider that our Chase and Status track is a garage tune, rather than their usual stomping, DnB.

After warming your toes at the hearth of some smooth, pitch-shifted vocals, by the time we head into the last third of Mike’s playlist, he’s turning up the furnace with some loud rap talent. M.I.A. is back with Sexodus – an ode to ‘having it all’ (lucky for some) which was apparently offered to (and refused by) Madonna, Joey Bada$$ has dropped a remix of ‘My Yout’ with Maverick Sabre and, of course, we’ve got another offering from Eminem
