London Beer Week: Exclusive Jameson Caskmates Tasting Experience @ Hiver Brewery

Last week we headed over to unique Hiver Brewery (specialists in honey beer) just off of Maltby Street to check out the exclusive Jameson Caskmates tasting experience in conjunction with Disappearing Dining Club. An event hosted by the world’s no.1 Irish whiskey is not the typical thing that pops to mind when you think of London Beer Week, but the evening was designed to encourage those attending to test out the unique flavours that were on offer due to the ageing process involved in making Jameson Caskmates, a whiskey aged in stout seasoned barrels.

We were treated to a delightful three course meal with the combination of the food and the whiskey bringing out the subtle tastes of coccoa and hops from the stout and rounded of the flavours nicely. and taught about the flavour combinations between the whiskey and the food as well as being told the unique story of how Jameson Caskmates came about and was eventually launched in 2014 thanks to the collaborative efforts of Jameson and Franciscan Well Brewery.

The unique whiskey concept, was born of a conversation between the Jameson Master Distiller, Brian Nation, and the Founder and Head Brewer at Franciscan Well, Shane Long. During this chance meeting in an Irish pub, forward-thinking Brian and Shane discussed the idea of ageing Jameson whiskey in the Cork brewer’s stout-seasoned barrels. After six months of meticulous testing, tasting and plenty of trial, Jameson Caskmates came to fruition, making the musings of two pioneering men a new taste sensation for all, satisfying whiskey and beer lovers alike.
